Netscape Communicator 4.8 - www.netscape.com This is old, but
actually a great "free" utility for creating webpages. It includes
"Netscape composer" which is a fully functional website creation
program (Something most browsers lack today). I won't give a direct
link (as Netscape may move the older programs around), but go to
their site and look at the "archived
downloads".
Yahoo Sitebuilder- http://webhosting.yahoo.com/ps/sb/index.php A very nice and easy website builder geared for
"newbee's" mainly. You can make a very professional website with
this. Lots of templates, and helpful features. It does however lack
some alot that experienced webmasters may
want.
IrfanView - www.irfranview.com An awesome (and super fast) image viewer. It's "free",
and a quick download. You can re-size images in a second, and save
in many formats. A great little program for creating your websites.
Actually, I am in the process of making one "similar" (I program
also) that will be out once I resolve a few problems. I just wanted
to say,, I like this one so much, it became the "pattern" for the
one I am working on. Hard telling when mine will be released.. it's
mostly functional but I have so many projects going.. I have no
clue.. lol.
ChangeRes - Is a program
I created. It does what it was designed to do, and does it well.
I made it to change "screen resolutions" in an instant, so you can
view your website how your users may see it. There are so many resolutions,
it's best to check your site in all. I haven't released it
(yet). The reason, it will work perfect in any resolution your video
card supports. However, if you try to change to a resolution your
card doesn't, your computer will crash. If you want it, ask, and
I'll send it to you (as is, free). Just know what your card
supports.

WS_FTP95 and CuteFTP - These are FTP programs. If your a "newbee" you
need to know "True FTP" is very important if you plan to make a
decent sized site. It allows you to "directly" send your site,
to the server (almost instantly). You don't have to go through a ton
of "site crap" to add a single file. Your server must support FTP to
use. Ok, these two programs are great. WS_FTP95 is free to try, but
never expires. You will have a hard time finding it on the net now.
If you find it.. "Keep it". CuteFTP is good also. One of the best.
Free to try, but you will have to pay to keep. Overall, if you can't
find WS_FTP95, I'd just purchase the professional "PageBreeze" that
has it's own built in FTP
program.
StgThumb -
A very good "thumbnail" creation utility.
It's free. You will have to do a search on "Google" to find a
download link. It's in many places. You can take "tons" of pictures,
and make a thumbnail in an
instant.
Programming
tools: http://www.microsoft.com/express/default.aspx At some point you may want
to learn a programming language such as "Visual Basic", or "Visual
C++". These take much time to really learn, and a lifetime to really
master. You can however be writing "useful" applications (to help
your business) within a short period of time (if your committed).
The link above is a good place to
start.
SERVERS:
0Catch.com-
I have just switched to this server. I
almost always try the "free" before premium service. I can say the
"pro's and con's" only on the free aspect right now. Pages load
well.. seems pretty fast. Gobs and gobs of "pop-ups" though. The
good thing is.. to remove the "pop-ups" they have very decent
pricing. I have decided to switch to a "paid hosting account" (which
currently starts at like $6.00
mo.).
AOL- Get your ass off AOL! I am serious. I started
making websites when basically nobody knew what they were. I had an
AOL account, and put sites up there. Today is (20 yrs later or so)..
I have come to learn "AOL" sucks in most every way possible. Price,
ease of adding pages, customer support.. everything. Find a better
server. You can always get the "chats" (The only thing Iiked on AOL)
and such from different
sites.
